BIRMINGHAM, AL—Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C. is pleased to announce that the Birmingham Business Journal has honored principal Matthew Penfield with its “Best of the Bar” award. The annual awards are designed to highlight star performers from across the Magic City’s legal scene. As an honoree, Penfield will be featured in the Birmingham Business Journal and recognized at an event on April 13 at The Harbert Center.

The Best of the Bar awards program is designed to acknowledge the work of accomplished area lawyers across select practice areas. Honorees are selected from a public pool of nominations submitted through Birmingham Business Journal’s website and are determined by a panel of editorial judges. Nominees were evaluated based on criteria including contributions to their fields, tangible accomplishments in their practice area, and contributions to their respective firms. Factors such as professional reputation and civic involvement are also considered.

Penfield advises and represents clients in the areas of immigration, labor and employment, and general litigation. His labor and employment practice includes representing management and advising clients in a wide variety of employment matters, including discrimination and retaliation cases. He has experience defending both individual and class and collective action lawsuits brought by or on behalf of current and former employees. Penfield litigates and provides advice relating to the enforceability of employment agreements and non-compete agreements in state and federal courts, as well as actions filed with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
