We had the luxury of not having the history of 150 years of representing James Pierpont Morgan or Mr. Goldman. We invested in our clients. We thought about, where do the clients want to be in five years, 10 years, and what skills are we going to need to bring to our platform to be that consigliere, that strategic adviser to our very best clients.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When you have a bet-your-company M&A matter, when you have a bet-your-company controversy \u2026 I want someone to think, \u2018We need to call Latham & Watkins.\u2019 I want us to be the only firm that comes to mind.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2014 <\/i>\u00a0Marc Jaffe<\/a>, managing partner\u00a0of Latham & Watkins\u2019 New York office, in comments given to the American Lawyer<\/a>, on the firm\u2019s strategy in the city as a \u201ctalent aggregator\u201d that can \u201cexercise dominance\u201d over the competition. \u201cThere are firms that we compete with in slices, in products. I think there is no firm that presents to the market the breadth of \u2026 market leadership that we do,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
