Republican Congress members have already filed <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/articles-of-impeachment-against-judge-for-grievous-insult-of-doing-his-job\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">articles of impeachment<\/a> against U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer for <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/judge-told-trump-and-musk-to-follow-the-law-for-a-week-theyre-calling-it-tyranny\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">issuing a temporary restraining order<\/a>\u00a0blocking the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Treasury Department data. But the GOP\u2019s ire isn\u2019t limited to jurists appointed by Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, Rep.\u00a0Andy Ogles\u00a0(R-Tenn.) introduced an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-resolution\/157\/text?s=2&amp;r=1&amp;q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22Impeaching%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">impeachment resolution<\/a> against U.S. District Judge\u00a0John Bates because he had the audacity(!) to order restoring public health data websites. Ogles really lays it on thick too with his articles of impeachment, writing Bates\u2019s decision was \u201cso utterly lacking in intellectual honesty and basic integrity that he is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.\u201d\u00a0Ogles also blasted Bates <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepOgles\/status\/1894101950377201989\" rel=\"nofollow\">on social media,<\/a> calling him a \u201cRADICAL LGBTQ ACTIVIST,\u201d and seeking to stoke the flames of indignation by saying he\u2019s supporting \u201csurgical or chemical castration of healthy children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sigh. That\u2019s a gross misrepresentation of what Bates \u2014 appointed by George W. Bush \u2014 actually did. U.S. health agencies rushed to comply with Donald Trump\u2019s anti-transgender executive order asserting there are only two sexes, and pulled down public health data from the internet. The agencies were sued by a physicians group that argued under the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) they had to provide adequate notice before terminating significant information products.
