Unless there is a broad-based condemnation of this and similar attacks, we face a significant risk that many individuals will become even more susceptible to vindictive, arbitrary, and unjust political prosecutions without the ability to vigorously defend themselves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u2014 <\/i>\u00a0The New York Council of Defense Lawyers<\/a>, in a statement offered to Law.com<\/a>, in the wake of President Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0targeting of Covington & Burling, the Biglaw firm that is representing former special counsel Jack Smith. Trump not only suspended the security clearances of Smith\u2019s legal team<\/a> but also directed agencies \u201cto review all government contracts\u201d with the firm. The New York Council of Defense Lawyers called Trump\u2019s move \u201ca brazen attack on the defense function and the rule of law.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
