We were already seeing the pendulum swing away from law firm leaders commenting on social issues, and that trend is now accelerating. The potential threat of retaliation to a firm\u2019s business and reputation is unprecedented. Law firm leaders must immediately assess all their risks, then figure out how to communicate about these issues internally and externally, defend their firm, and still reinforce what they stand for \u2013 all without putting a target on their back.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong><em>\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baretzbrunelle.com\/cari-brunelle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cari Brunelle<\/a>, co-founder of legal industry advisory firm Baretz + Brunelle, in comments given to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/americanlawyer\/2025\/03\/07\/after-perkins-coie-order-law-firm-leaders-shocked-but-public-statements-scarce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">American Lawyer<\/a>, on why law firm leaders are laying low in the wake of President Donald Trump targeting Perkins Coie specifically and Biglaw firms generally (i.e., \u201cleading law firms\u201d) <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/trump-signs-executive-order-calling-out-top-50-biglaw-firm-with-intent-to-wage-war-against-other-leading-law-firms-over-their-dei-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">over their DEI policies<\/a> via executive order.
