The jurist, who seems almost desperate to prove he\u2019s Donald Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2024\/12\/james-ho-supreme-court-birthright-citizenship\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">most conservative lil\u2019 judge<\/a>, has quit the Federal Judges Association (FJA) in a fit of pique. <\/p>\n<p>As has been documented, the federal judiciary is <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/doj-demands-to-speak-to-the-manager-about-all-these-annoying-lawsuits\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">under attack<\/a>, the scope of which has never been seen before. Articles of impeachment have been introduced against judges appointed by<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/now-the-gops-going-after-their-own-judges-when-they-do-their-job\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> both Republicans<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/articles-of-impeachment-against-judge-for-grievous-insult-of-doing-his-job\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Democrats<\/a> to the bench. Mind you, not because of any ethical scandal, but because they issued decisions against the interests of Trump. The <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/serial-judge-shopper-elon-musk-rails-against-others-judge-shopping-which-they-arent\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">social media attacks <\/a>against judges have reached a fevered pitch, so much so that the U.S. Marshal Service is<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/white-house-has-absolutely-unhinged-response-to-judicial-threats\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> issuing warnings and ramping up protection<\/a> for the most targeted judges.<\/p>\n<p>In that face of these threats, the FJA <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1IijWrmH8VlLu2LFycwE-P86VweRSWOT7\/view\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">issued a statement<\/a>, which is pretty straightforward.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The security of federal judges and all those serving in the judicial branch of our government is fundamental to their ability to uphold the rule of law, and to fulfill their constitutional duty without fear or undue influence. Any erosion in the independence of the judiciary is a threat to our Constitution and to democratic rule of law. Ensuring judicial security is not just about protecting individuals, it is about preserving the integrity of our legal system and the public\u2019s trust in an impartial judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>Judges must be permitted to do their jobs without fear of violence or intimidation of any kind.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This should be wildly uncontroversial. But while some see an expression of human decency, others see a chance to exploit it for personal gain. Over the weekend, at the Federalist Society\u2019s National Student Symposium, Ho lashed out at the FJA for speaking out against the unprecedented attacks on the judiciary because they didn\u2019t make similar statements when conservative judges were criticized (like Justices Thomas and Alito). But Ho takes the moment to insist that Clarence Thomas should be immune from criticism when <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2022\/11\/no-clarence-thomas-still-isnt-going-to-recuse-himself-in-january-6th-related-case\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he hears cases<\/a> on matters his wife is <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2017\/02\/ginni-thomass-grassroots-movement-in-favor-of-the-trump-travel-ban\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">directly involved <\/a>in, or when Samuel Alito favorably cites someone who <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2022\/05\/just-look-who-alito-cites-in-his-opinion-overturning-roe\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sent women to their deaths <\/a>for the crime of being witches.
