Attorneys are utilizing virtual staffers (admininstrators and paralegals), as well as lawyers of all experience levels, on projects or on a fractional basis.\u00a0Modern, cloud-based technology makes it easier than ever before to manage these relationships, and using virtual staff allows law firms to work with the best people, without being limited by geography.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why we brought law partners Carlin Phillips<\/a> and Andrew Garcia<\/a> of Phillips & Garcia PC<\/a> onto the Non-Eventcast podcast: to talk over how they use remote staff in their practice.<\/p>\n

I kicked things off by talking about Portuguese culture (and, food) \u2014 as one does \u2014 which is a very important part of the community that Carlin & Andy practice in (4:32, 6:35).\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Then, we moved on to a discussion of outsourcing, by chatting about how that\u2019s accomplished in a high-end litigation practice (10:22), as well as how the firm uses the LawClerk platform to find contractors (11:04, 11:59, 14:48).\u00a0 <\/p>\n

After that, I asked the attorneys about some of the challenges they\u2019ve had, in bringing on contractors (20:00, 22:36), including how and when AI comes into play (25:45).\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Next, Andy and Carlin discussed the option of co-counseling as a potential alternative to utilizing contractors (30:22).\u00a0 Finally, the attorneys addressed how contractors can allow law firms to scale effectively at lower cost (31:47), and help smaller firms to punch above their weight (32:52).<\/p>\n
