And the Trump administration responded with tepid public assurances that it has no intention of ignoring orders \u2014 at least <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/trump-white-house-tests-supreme-court-loyalty-with-increasingly-crackpot-legal-arguments\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not without some crackpot excuse<\/a> \u2014 before going back to blasting judges as partisan activists that need to be impeached.<\/p>\n<p>Well, John\u2026 mission NOT accomplished!<\/p>\n<p>The federal government launched a holy war against Perkins Coie for having the audacity to have routinely beaten Republicans over the years when the party\u2019s election ratfucking efforts fail. For this transgression, Trump launched multiple attacks against the firm, primarily by means of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2025\/03\/11\/2025-03989\/addressing-risks-from-perkins-coie-llp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Executive Order 14230<\/a> taking away security clearances and ordering a review of all government contracts with the firm.<\/p>\n<p>The case has <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/perkins-coie-drags-trump-administration-clear-to-hell-in-new-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">proven a comedy of errors for the administration so far<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To wit, Judge Beryl Howell entered a minute order yesterday commanding the government to stop issuing \u2014 let\u2019s be honest, intentionally \u2014 chilling disclosure requests about relationships with Perkins Coie and go ahead and inform anyone who already got one to go ahead and ignore it. The government had to provide a status report by noon.<\/p>\n<p>They missed that deadline, but DOJ lawyer Chad Mizelle told the court, \u201cCounsel for Defendant were able to confirm with OMB that the guidance required by the Court\u2019s Minute Order was distributed through the OMB process by approximately Noon today, with this Status Report filed as soon as possible following that confirmation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HOW\u2019S THAT GOING?!?!?!<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-bluesky-social wp-block-embed-bluesky-social\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"bluesky-embed\" data-bluesky-uri=\"at:\/\/did:plc:36eqtmzysqf7wsslczw4uxcd\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3lktelafguc2b\" data-bluesky-cid=\"bafyreigc62dir2g2afm7v7dhqpkzqkc3h4vi4oqkuhc2dak43miunjihla\">\n<p lang=\"en\">WELL: Here&#8217;s Judge Howell&#8217;s 3\/19 minute order in the Perkins Coie case; what Chad Mizelle, as well as two other DOJ lawyers, told the judge when they filed their status report a little past noon today; and \u2026 the actual memo, just filed. He must appreciate his boss making him lie to a federal judge. Presumably \u2014 geez, we hope presumably \u2014 Mizelle did not know he was about to get blindsided when he made his statement. But given how this administration runs, maybe \u201clying to a federal judge\u201d was just an item on today\u2019s checklist between lunch and \u201cDeclaring Measles Appreciation Day.\u201d Not that it should matter much because a DOJ lawyer \u2014 especially one in a leadership position like Mizelle \u2014 has to own the sanctions for playing \u201cOpposites Day\u201d with a federal judge.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201call necessary and legal actions\u201d language appears designed to give the administration the out later to say, \u201cby \u2018legal\u2019 of course we meant to appeal!\u201d Which is bullshit. They didn\u2019t say, \u201cwe complied but intend to appeal,\u201d they said they think the order is wrong and they\u2019re going to do whatever they want anyway. This sort of coy wording fits within the overarching administration strategy of pushing for a constitutional crisis and leaving <em>just<\/em> enough room to step back in case there\u2019s too much heat. <\/p>\n<p>But the purpose of a strategy like this is to keep doing it until\u2026 the heat just doesn\u2019t materialize.<\/p>\n<p>Got anything left in the tank there, John?
