Faced with <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/bannon-drops-bombshell-trump-wants-to-cripple-elite-law-firms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">existential attacks<\/a> from the executive branch, too many firms in Biglaw are <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/biglaws-silence-on-trumps-executive-orders-is-deafening-for-in-house-counsel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trying to hide<\/a> (or worse, <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/paul-weiss-grovels-to-trump-gets-out-from-under-executive-order\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appease Trump<\/a>) rather than fight. And there are <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/paul-weiss-interview-aged-like-raw-milk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">open letters<\/a>, protests, and <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/a-third-year-skadden-associate-is-the-only-person-in-biglaw-willing-to-publicly-condemn-trumps-threat-to-the-rule-of-law\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resignations<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/hundreds-of-associates-sign-open-letter-calling-on-biglaw-leaders-to-defend-the-legal-profession\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">those infuriated<\/a> at all the wealthy firms that are not standing up for the <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/harvard-law-professor-compares-maga-politics-to-deadly-virus-set-to-take-out-american-democracy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rule of law<\/a> and for <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/trump-sics-eeoc-on-20-biglaw-firms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">diversity efforts <\/a>that are also under attack.<\/p>\n<p>And there\u2019s agitation for associates to organize in a more concrete effort. <\/p>\n<p>Former Skadden associate Rachel Cohen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/americanlawyer\/2025\/03\/26\/associates-are-organizing-protests-in-face-of-big-laws-silence-concessions-to-trump-administration\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told Law.com<\/a> associates are thinking about hitting Biglaw where it hurts \u2014 in recruiting:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cA number of associates at a number of firms are talking about doing recruitment strikes if firms do not commit to not complying with the EEOC\u2019s demands,\u201d Cohen said. \u201cFirms are very reliant on associates being able to do interviews themselves most of the time. That\u2019s an element where we have a lot of agency that comes with not a lot of risk to one\u2019s career.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That low-risk-to-their-own-career thing, while not the most inspiring, might be key to the collective action. Because as <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/does-anyone-actually-support-the-paul-weiss-decision-to-bend-a-knee\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">little support<\/a> as the Paul Weiss approach has amongst associates, just quitting is tough in the current job market. \u201cThere\u2019s not a robust lateral market right now,\u201d one recruiter who works with associates told Law.com.
