Earlier today, that happened, and, as per tradition, the departing associate sent a farewell email to their soon-to-be former colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Which shouldn\u2019t be controversial, but it sent Skadden into a tizzy when they wondered how a mass email even happened because they tried to kill the distribution lists from the top down to head off anyone who might want to express their opinion about the firm becoming a cowardly laughing stock in Biglaw. <\/p>\n<p>According to emails viewed by Above the Law, when the departure email went out, the powers-that-be freaked the F out.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"220\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/abovethelaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/03\/Skadden-1.png?resize=480%2C220&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1154422\" title=\"\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That\u2019s from PR to IT wondering how they\u2019re seeing this innocuous farewell email. It is so ironic considering the history of Skadden\u2019s establishment.\u201d Apparently that process didn\u2019t go as dystopianly as they\u2019d planned. <\/p>\n<p>Above the Law reached out to the firm, but did not immediately receive a comment.<\/p>\n<p>Even before the announcement came that Skadden was committing<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/skadden-makes-100-million-settlement-with-trump-in-pro-bono-payola\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> $100 million in pro bono payola<\/a> to get back in Donald Trump\u2019s good graces they were in the news. An associate at the firm rallied associates around the country to sign an open letter <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/hundreds-of-associates-sign-open-letter-calling-on-biglaw-leaders-to-defend-the-legal-profession\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">demanding a response from Biglaw<\/a>\u00a0to the attack on the rule of law and received crickets from the firm in response. And when the administration upped their attacks on Biglaw, that associate, Rachel Cohen,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/a-third-year-skadden-associate-is-the-only-person-in-biglaw-willing-to-publicly-condemn-trumps-threat-to-the-rule-of-law\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">publicly quit Skadden<\/a>\u00a0over the firm\u2019s failure to address and admonish Trump\u2019s retaliation against the legal system.<\/p>\n<p>Even though Skadden leadership is trying to control the internal narrative, tipsters that have reached out to Above the Law convey the anger and resentment insiders have at the firm for bending a knee.
