Royal watchers are all in a tizzy over a change that Prince William is making. No, he\u2019s no shaving that scraggly beard he\u2019s been rocking of late, but he\u2019s hired his own lawyers. <\/p>\n

In a move that is being unironically described as shocking<\/a>, and \u201cthe talk of legal circles,\u201d\u00a0the Prince of Whales is hiring a different law firm than his father! I know you\u2019re wowed. King Charles has used the law firm Harbottle & Lewis and its partner, Gerrard Tyrrell for years, but Prince William has decided to hire\u00a0Mishcon de Reya. And the gossipy part of the shake-up is Mishcon de Reya is the firm that Princess Diana used when she divorced Charles in the 1990s.<\/p>\n

According to reports<\/a>, William\u2019s break with tradition had everything to do with trying to differentiate himself from the King, with a source saying, \u201cWilliam wanted to strike out on his own. He did not want to continue using his father\u2019s lawyers. It\u2019s as simple as that. He wants to be his own man.\u201d The \u201cfriend\u201d added, \u201cWilliam wants to do things differently from his father and wants to be seen to do them differently.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s not been an official comment on the lawyer move, but William has previously expressed <\/a>his desire to do things in his own way, \u201cI can only describe what I\u2019m trying to do, and that\u2019s I\u2019m trying to do it differently and I\u2019m trying to do it for my generation. And to give you more an understanding around it, I\u2019m doing it with maybe a smaller \u2018R\u2019 in the royal, if you like, that\u2019s maybe a better way of saying it.\u201d<\/p>\n
