We now know that Kirkland &amp; Ellis, Latham &amp; Watkins, A&amp;O Shearman, Simpson Thacher, and Cadwalader have all inked deals with Trump \u2014 and they\u2019re <em>far<\/em> worse than the already bad deals other Biglaw firms like <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/skadden-makes-100-million-settlement-with-trump-in-pro-bono-payola\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Skadden<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/milbank-joins-list-of-pushover-biglaw-firms-bowing-to-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milbank<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/willkie-farr-surrenders-to-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Willkie<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/paul-weiss-grovels-to-trump-gets-out-from-under-executive-order\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Weiss<\/a> got.<\/p>\n<p>Kirkland, Latham, Simpson, and A&amp;O Shearman were among the Biglaw firms <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/trump-sics-eeoc-on-20-biglaw-firms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">threatened with EEOC investigations<\/a> concerning their DEI practices; with their pro bono payola deals, those menacing EEOC claims have now disappeared. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/americanlawyer\/2025\/04\/11\/kirkland-latham-ao-shearman-and-simpson-make-deal-with-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">American Lawyer<\/a> has the details on those poorly negotiated agreements:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Kirkland, Latham, A&amp;O Shearman and Simpson, together, will provide an aggregate of at least $500 million in pro bono work \u201cand other free legal services\u201d during the Trump administration \u201cand beyond,\u201d Trump said. Each firm is agreeing to $125 million worth of pro bono in all, Trump said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These firms will now be under Trump\u2019s control throughout his presidency \u201cand beyond\u201d his stay in the White House. Bending a knee to a president who believes he\u2019s become a king will do nothing good for these firms.<\/p>\n<p>As far as Cadwalader is concerned, the firm escaped with providing \u201cat least $100 million in pro bono legal services\u201d to Trump, all for <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/donald-trump-is-trying-to-shakedown-cadwalader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">saving Todd Blanche\u2019s dignity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s announcement of these deals included a statement from the leaders of Simpson, Latham, Kirkland, and A&amp;O Shearman: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cToday, our Firms reached an agreement with President Trump and his Administration, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). We have resolved this matter while upholding long-held principles important to each of our Firms: Equal Employment Opportunity; providing pro bono assistance to a wide range of underserved populations, and ensuring fairness in the Justice System; and representing a broad spectrum of clients on various matters.
