The company indicated that the investment would support its rapid market growth and drive product development and expansion.

Tackling Complex Tasks

“We created Reasoning Mode because attorneys need more than just basic automation,” said Jay Madheswaran, CEO and cofounder of Eve. “They need tools that actually improve the quality of their legal analysis and help them tackle complex cases more efficiently, all while maintaining the high standards their clients expect.”

As Eve’s Reasoning Mode launches today, the company says that it is embedded in certain skills, with others to be added. Among the tasks it can perform are:

Damage Calculations. Eve says it can deliver precise pre-litigation damage estimates, reducing calculation errors and strengthening initial demand figures. In beta testing, attorneys reported saving up to 60% of time previously spent on manual calculations while achieving higher accuracy, Eve says.

Case Evaluations. Eve says this skill can quickly assess a case’s viability during intake, identifying strong claims and flagging incomplete information. This can help ensure that a firm applies consistent evaluation standards across all matters.

Legal Analysis. With this skill, Reasoning Mode can enhance motion drafting and pleading review by spotting inconsistencies and suggesting relevant case law.

Settlement Strategy. Eve says it can provide insights on optimal settlement ranges based on case patterns and judicial tendencies. In testing, this has helped firms achieve settlements averaging 15-20% higher than traditional negotiation approaches, Eve says.

Eve says Reasoning Mode is particularly helpful for complex legal tasks.

“When reviewing cases for multiple claims — such as FEHA, PAGA, and FLSA violations — Reasoning Mode methodically evaluates each element, checks for overlapping requirements, and provides structured analyses that would typically require hours of attorney time to compile,” the company says.

The CEO Answers My Questions

Although time did not allow me to speak with CEO Jay Madheswaran ahead of today’s announcement, he did agree to answer some questions by email. Here are his responses:

Is this new reasoning mode something you sell as a component of your platform for an additional price?

“Reasoning Mode is foundational to Eve’s mission of arming plaintiffs’ attorneys with the sharpest AI on the planet, so every customer — pilot or paid — gets it at no extra charge. We see it as the baseline for pushing legal AI forward, not an add-on.”

How does a user invoke these reasoning tasks? Are these presented as preconfigured skills?

“It’s friction-free: a single toggle in the chat bar turns Reasoning Mode on, much like enabling “Web Search” in ChatGPT. Power users can also bake it into their custom Playbooks — saved workflows that trigger multi-step analyses in one click. Whether you’re drafting a brief or sanity-checking damages, the extra horsepower is always one toggle away.”

Are the skills listed in the press release — damage calculations, case evaluations, legal analysis, and settlement analysis — the ones that will be available now? Are others planned or in the works?

“We’re definitely not limiting ourselves to just those capabilities. While reasoning mode is embedded in those specific skills because that’s where we’ve seen the most significant impact, we’re continuously expanding the possibilities. The beauty of this feature is that it can enhance virtually any interaction you have with Eve. We provide comprehensive training and best practices to help users maximize its potential, but we don’t restrict how it can be applied — the use cases are truly limitless. Our users have already been teaching Eve new skills specific to their firm.”

For suggesting case law and analyzing judicial tendencies, is the AI drawing on the open web or specific internal data?

“Eve works exclusively with specific internal data rather than pulling from the open web. This is an intentional design choice — Eve is not connected to the internet, which helps ensure data security and reliability of the information being analyzed.”

A Platform for PI Firms

As I wrote about Eve in January, its platform is designed to assist plaintiffs’ law firms throughout every phase of a case, from intake and evaluation through pre-litigation and discovery. The company describes it as an “intelligent partner” that can help attorneys optimize their productivity.

Its platform allows firms to create detailed medical chronologies, identify key case risks, and calculate damages. The platform also enables attorneys to draft demand letters using firm-specific styles and preferences.

The company’s platform features include intake and evaluation capabilities for identifying the best cases, pre-litigation tools for drafting demand letters and other documents, and litigation support for generating discovery requests and analyzing depositions.

As of early 2025, Eve reported significant market traction, claiming it had seen 5x revenue growth and signed more than 80 new law firms over the previous eight months, leading to an 800 percent increase in its customer base within a year.

LawNext: Eve CEO Jay Madheswaran on Building AI-Native Law Firms for the Plaintiffs’ Bar

Eve, an AI platform for plaintiffs’ law firms, is today introducing an AI Reasoning Mode that it says can perform complex legal analysis through sophisticated step-by-step reasoning capabilities, on a par with a senior-level lawyer.
