Donna Adelson\u2019s murder trial keeps getting snagged on setbacks. She had a conflict of interest with her son\u2019s lawyer<\/a>, then a different lawyer conflicted out soon after<\/a>. She also tried getting the judge removed from her case. As commendable as the effort was, it didn\u2019t work out in her favor<\/a>. Fear not, Donna Adelson and her counsel have found a new reason to delay the trial. This time, they\u2019re complaining that the trial date of June 3rd needs to be pushed back because opposing counsel gave them too many documents in discovery. Law360<\/a> has coverage:<\/p>\n

The former mother-in-law of slain Florida law professor Dan Markel asked Wednesday to delay her trial on charges she helped orchestrate his murder, citing copious discovery produced in recent weeks by the prosecution.

In the last two weeks, they have received more than 100,000 emails and have had to purchase software to try to go through them quickly, Zelman said. The state has also produced more than 30 calls from a wiretap in this new investigation, and Zelman said they \u201chave not had an opportunity to review even two hours of these calls.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

For what it\u2019s worth, it probably isn\u2019t the best idea to have counsel listen to over 30 wiretapped calls at 4x speed like they\u2019re cramming for a Crim Law final to be trial ready. That\u2019s not even factoring in the 100k+ emails! Good lawyering takes time. If the delay is approved, it would be completely understandable. Either way, Adelson and their counsel will know if they get the additional time or not very soon.<\/p>\n
