Donald Trump\u2019s attacks on Biglaw have had some interesting consequences. We \u2014 along with clients<\/a> \u2014 have learned which firms<\/a> took the short-sighted cowardly way out and capitulated to the mercurial demands of a bully and which are willing to fight for their firms and the rule of law. But another interesting byproduct has been the windfall for MAGA figures peddling advice \u2014 and access \u2014 on the problems plaguing Biglaw.<\/p>\n

Both Skadden and Davis Polk<\/a> hired Miller Strategies, staffed by Trump fundraiser Jeff Miller and former Trump White House lawyer Stefan Passantino, for lobbying efforts. Kirkland and Simpson Thacher each\u00a0hired Ballard Partners<\/a>, a lobbying firm founded by a top Trump fundraiser, before capitulating to Trump. Now Bloomberg Law is reporting<\/a> Hogan Lovells is also turning to MAGA-adjacent advisers.<\/p>\n

HoLove was one of the 20 Biglaw firms that the EEOC targeted<\/a> at the behest of Trump on account of their DEI practices. In a response to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton related to the probe, it was revealed that HoLove tapped the law firm Continental PLLC <\/a>to quarterback their response to the diversity investigation:<\/p>\n

Continental, a Coral Gables, Florida-based firm that lists 14 attorneys on its website, is representing Hogan, according to a letter the firm sent to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) on April 15. Bloomberg Law obtained the letter Thursday through a public records request.<\/p>\n

Continental\u2019s roster includes Christopher Kise, a former Foley & Lardner attorney who has defended Trump in government prosecutions the president has referred to as \u201cweaponization\u201d of the legal system. Other attorneys at the firm with Trump ties include Lazaro Fields, Carlos Trujillo and Alyssa Specht Garcia.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Kise<\/a> left his Biglaw roots when he represented Trump in the classified documents case, and made his way to Continental. Trump\u2019s second term in office has seemingly brought a new revenue stream to that boutique.<\/p>\n
