In a sense, Ed is already a smashing success \u2014 since politicized harassment of <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/turning-over-u-s-attorneys-office-to-conspiracy-theorist-working-out-as-expected\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">government officials<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/dc-prosecutor-ed-martin-goes-after-wikipedia-for-exercising-first-amendment-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Wikipedia<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opb.org\/article\/2025\/05\/02\/medical-journals-hit-with-threatening-letters-from-justice-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">random medical journals<\/a> are all down a whopping 100 percent since he left his US Attorney role. Meanwhile, Trump is also putting Martin in charge of deciding who gets pardons, a fitting role for the attorney whose claim to fame was representing January 6 defendants \u2014 up to and including using his interim DOJ role to <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/u-s-attorney-ed-martin-blows-past-another-ethical-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">free his own clients<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>But this left Trump with the problem of finding a new interim appointment to run prosecutions in DC, preferably with a chance in hell of getting confirmed. After a deep, serious vetting process involving turning on Fox News yesterday, Trump settled upon Jeanine Pirro.<\/p>\n<p>As \u201csurprising\u201d picks go, let\u2019s just say this isn\u2019t like an American Pope.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2018\/06\/fox-news-justice-jeanine-pirro-for-supreme-court.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Pirro eyed the Attorney General role<\/a> \u2014 or at least the Deputy\u2019s seat. Part of the Federalist Society\u2019s move from running the GOP judicial nomination process from the shadows to running it out in the open was the overriding fear that Trump would try to put Pirro on the Supreme Court based upon her qualifications as \u201csomeone who talks about law on TV.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pirro may not land in any of those loftier roles, but the US Attorney gig in DC is not a bad consolation.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, she\u2019s the sort of former county judge with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/newyorklawjournal\/2018\/02\/21\/former-ny-prosecutor-jeanine-pirro-admits-driving-95-mph-in-65-mph-zone\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a lead foot<\/a> \u2014 police claiming they clocked her down 119 on Route 17 (she would plead to 95) \u2014 and a penchant for <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2018\/10\/judge-jeanine-of-fox-news-gets-schooled-on-defamation-by-sitting-judge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">racking up defamation claims<\/a>. She even managed <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2021\/02\/sick-burn-opens-up-defamation-lawsuit-filed-against-fox-news-lou-dobbs-maria-bartiromo-jeanine-pirro-rudy-giuliani-and-sidney-powell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">to get involved in the massive Dominion &amp; Smartmatic cases<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2023\/08\/fox-news-viet-dinh-stepping-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ended up costing the network a fortune<\/a>.
