If you start negotiating with Trump, then you wind up identifying what he may conclude are gaps in what you\u2019ve got, and then he demands more.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong><em>\u2014  <a href=\"https:\/\/its.law.nyu.edu\/facultyprofiles\/index.cfm?fuseaction=profile.overview&amp;personid=19943\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Stephen Gillers<\/a>, a professor at New York University Law School, in comments given to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/business-and-practice\/law-firms-thread-needle-on-trump-pledges-with-minimal-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Bloomberg Law<\/a>, on the perhaps intentionally vague <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/biglaw-is-under-attack-heres-what-the-firms-are-doing-about-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">pro bono payola deals<\/a> that nine Biglaw firms signed with the Trump administration, pledging $940 million in free legal services. Trump has yet to attempt to enforce those deals, and the Biglaw firms in question aren\u2019t pushing the issue, either.
