Their (now former) Biglaw home inked <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/paul-weiss-grovels-to-trump-gets-out-from-under-executive-order\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a coward\u2019s deal<\/a> with Donald Trump to get out from under an <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/bannon-drops-bombshell-trump-wants-to-cripple-elite-law-firms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">onerous Executive Order<\/a> rather than fight the <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/05\/executive-order-against-jenner-block-is-null-and-void\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unconstitutional EO<\/a> in court. So, they picked up their ball and bat \u2014 or books of business \u2014 and started a brand new firm, unencumbered by the terms of capitulation.<\/p>\n<p>Since they announced their new firm (at the PW partners meeting, no less!) <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/06\/partners-are-running-from-the-stink-of-paul-weisss-capitulation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">they\u2019ve been<\/a> collecting <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/07\/latham-loses-appellate-litigator-to-biglaw-firm-actually-willing-to-defend-the-rule-of-law\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">litigators<\/a> (a number of which also spent time working at Boies Schiller, like the name partners). And last week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/meryl-governski-conant-129b567_i-am-thrilled-to-be-joining-the-deep-bench-activity-7346161042961432576-K47a?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAADTga4BfINSGZsvrH1pKTcXCzO7ihThF8w\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">they added<\/a> another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/verdict-reached-damages-giulianis-trial-defaming-georgia-election-workers-2023-12-15\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">skilled litigator<\/a> in the form of Meryl Governski. <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/06\/paul-weiss-insists-everything-is-fine-despite-all-evidence-that-things-are-not-in-fact-fine\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Like many<\/a> joining Dunn Isaacson Rhee, Governski most recently worked at a firm that signed a deal with Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/willkie-farr-surrenders-to-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this time Willkie Farr.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Willkie has already <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/06\/bevy-of-willkie-partners-depart-for-biglaw-firm-that-will-actually-stand-up-for-the-rule-of-law\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lost a number<\/a> of litigators <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/06\/willkie-farr-gets-slammed-for-grave-mistake\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">because of their capitulation<\/a> to Trump. But, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/legalindustry\/willkie-partner-joins-law-firm-formed-by-ex-paul-weiss-lawyers-2025-07-02\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported by<\/a> Reuters, Willkie partner Michael Gottlieb (who has worked with Governski on a number of high-profile representations including Drake, Blake Lively and the Georgia poll workers who successfully sued Rudy Giuliani for defamation) had a different spin on the departure, chalking it up to the time Governski spent working at Boies Schiller:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Willkie partner Michael Gottlieb in a statement said the firm hoped to continue working with Governski at her new firm. He said it was \u201ccompletely unsurprising\u201d that she would want to reunite with her former Boies Schiller colleagues.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Interesting take.
