Freshfields talked a big game on their commitment to DEI, but it looks like there\u2019s a proverbial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/daily-show-takes-on-missing-minute-in-jeffrey-epstein-prison-video\/?via=twitter_page\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">minute missing from the footage<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The firm set some huge diversity goals for this side of the pond, things like having at least 20 percent of new partners be racially or ethnically diverse and at least 30 percent of their senior business service staff be the same. Since then, Trump happened; it seems like Freshfields has had a change of heart. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollonfriday.com\/news-content\/exclusive-doubt-cast-freshfields-dei-claims\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roll On Friday<\/a> has coverage:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>RollOnFriday has uncovered discrepancies in Freshfields\u2019 diversity and inclusion data which cast doubt on its claims about its DEI achievements.<br \/>\u2026<br \/>The firm binned its US diversity targets[.] When asked about the move by a press which had dutifully reported the firm\u2019s five year plan at its launch, allowing Freshfields to reap the attendant publicity benefits, it would not answer directly. Instead, a source close to the firm said it had \u201cretired\u201d its US specific targets \u201cas they had been met or exceeded\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That seems to be the lawyerly way of saying \u201cwe don\u2019t care about that anymore\u201d. RollonFriday did the perfectly reasonable journalistic followup of asking if Freshfields can accurately say the goals have been met or exceeded when data from 2024 showed that the firm was behind. The firm responded that their information wasn\u2019t up to date, but that\u2019s a bit glib considering any hope of more up-to-date DEI information <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/international-edition\/2025\/03\/31\/freshfields-removes-dei-content-retires-us-diversity-targets-\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was scrubbed from their website months ago<\/a>.
