I am guessing that the firms that settled never anticipated the extent of the blowback or how long the settlements would continue to be front-of-mind for many people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fact that the settlements happened at all was extraordinary. The amount of free legal work that was extracted was extraordinary. Every time there is a new development that seems remotely related to those settlements, some people become incensed all over again. Those settlements never should have happened.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2014 <\/i>Leslie Levin<\/a>, a legal ethics professor at the University of Connecticut School of Law<\/strong>, in comments given to the American Lawyer<\/a>, on the lasting impact of the pro bono payola deals that the notorious nine Biglaw firms \u2014 including\u00a0Kirkland & Ellis<\/a>;\u00a0Latham & Watkins<\/a>;\u00a0Skadden<\/a>;\u00a0Simpson Thacher<\/a>;\u00a0Paul Weiss<\/a>;\u00a0Milbank<\/a>;\u00a0Willkie Farr<\/a>;\u00a0A&O Shearman<\/a>; and\u00a0Cadwalader<\/a><\/em><\/strong> \u2014 signed with Donald Trump to escape or get out from under odious (and unconstitutional) executive orders.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
