I\u2019m definitely talking to general counsel who are using the settlement issue as a criteria\u2014if not a dispositive variable\u2014in their law firm choices. We haven\u2019t pulled work from any firms yet, but when new matters come up, we\u2019re making sure that firms challenged by the government have a real opportunity to win our business.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2014 <\/i>\u00a0Eric Whitaker, chief legal officer at DNA sequencing company 10X Genomics, in comments given to the American Lawyer<\/a>, concerning working with law firms that made deals with the Trump administration. \u201cThere\u2019s a range of day-to-day legal work where I have complete discretion\u2013and that\u2019s where you\u2019ll see movement first,\u201d he said, pointing out that \u201cthere\u2019s a real concern about institutional stability.\u201d He went on to say that \u201c[i]f a firm you\u2019ve invested in suddenly can\u2019t represent you because of outside pressure, that\u2019s a major problem for companies.\u201d Whitaker is the co-founder of GCs United, a group for in-house legal officers to \u201cunite in support of the rule of law and fellow lawyers.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
