When they decided they were of equal value, the warring parties banished them to the Castle in the Air, because, \u201cWhat good are these girls if they cannot settle an argument in someone\u2019s favor?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sounds-like-a-client-talking-about-the-legal-system\">Sounds Like a Client Talking About the Legal System?<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-milo-s-challenges-are-yours-too\">Milo\u2019s Challenges Are Yours, Too<\/h3>\n<p>Do you sometimes feel like the players in your case are acting without <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collinsdictionary.com\/us\/dictionary\/english\/rhyme-or-reason\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">rhyme or reason?<\/a> Like Milo, your job is to restore good decision-making and rational behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Milo initially takes a wrong turn and ends up in the Doldrums, a place where nothing ever happens and nothing ever changes. An ordinance prohibits thinking, surmising, presuming, reasoning, meditating or speculating. The Doldrums are the place for procrastination and sloth, the hangout for the unprepared.<\/p>\n<p>In the realm of Dictionopolis, Milo is confused when presented with all the words that exist. King Azaz counsels: <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWith them there is no obstacle you cannot overcome. All you must learn to do is use them well and in the right places.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Digitopolis, Milo learns the importance of numbers.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-terrible-trivius-and-sensus-taker\">The Terrible Trivius and Sensus Taker<\/h2>\n<p>Milo faces several non-boring encounters along the way to rescuing Rhyme and Reason.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4n1QI4H\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"536\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.attorneyatwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Phantom-Tollbooth-Cover.jpg?resize=350%2C536&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-100044948 size-full\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The Terrible Trivius is the demon of petty tasks and worthless jobs, the ogre of wasted effort and the monster of habit. Terrible Trivius puts Milo and Tock to work doing useless tasks. Trivius\u2019s philosophy sounds like a lot of case management and law office administration activity:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIf you only do the easy and useless jobs, you\u2019ll never have to worry about the important ones which are so difficult. You just won\u2019t have the time. For there\u2019s always something to do to keep you from what you really should be doing. \u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Milo and Tock also escape The Senses Taker, who helps people find what they\u2019re <em>not<\/em> looking for. He vows to steal the voyagers\u2019 sense of purpose, sense of duty and sense of proportion.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers who lose those things sometimes also lose their sense of right and wrong.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can You Rescue the Princesses?<\/h2>\n<p>To rescue Rhyme and Reason, Milo and Tock have to get past an array of monsters. The Overbearing Know-it-all talks continuously; \u201ca dismal demon who was mostly mouth, he was ready at a moment\u2019s notice to offer misinformation on any subject.\u201d (I think I had some cases against this monster.)<\/p>\n<p>The heroes also evade Horrible Hopping Hindsight (lawyers call it sunk costs), Gross Exaggeration and Threadbare Excuse.\u00a0Finally, they reach the Kingdom of Wisdom, and the Kingdom\u2019s forces defeat the demons.<\/p>\n<p>When Milo found Rhyme and Reason, the princesses confided, \u201cIf we\u2019d told you at the beginning that it was impossible, you might not have gone.\u201d Lawyers, though, do have to confront the tasks that look insurmountable.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-try-not-to-lose-your-curiosity-or-sense-of-direction\">Try Not to Lose Your Curiosity or Sense of Direction<\/h2>\n<p>Your work will be more rewarding if you treat words with the same respect they received in Dictionopolis. It\u2019s easy to get bogged down by trivia, such as using form documents that may be obsolete or irrelevant to the present task. It\u2019s easy to stay in the doldrums and let cases linger, especially when your caseload is repetitive. Instead, try to maintain curiosity about the details.
