Counting the days until 10\/3! \ud83e\udde1 IYKYK)<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Highlights from Last Week\u00a0\u2013 Top Ten Headlines<\/h3>\n<p><strong>#1\u00a0\u201cUS Appeals Court Overturns Free Speech Ruling for Legal Advice Nonprofit Upsolve.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>From\u00a0<strong>Reuters:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cA U.S. appeals court on Tuesday set aside a ruling that blocked New York from enforcing rules prohibiting the unauthorized practice of law against a nonprofit that provides limited legal advice to poor people in the state. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fingfx.thomsonreuters.com\/gfx\/legaldocs\/gdvzbaglqvw\/Upsolve%20et%20al%20v.%20James%202nd%20Circuit%20Decision.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fingfx.thomsonreuters.com\/gfx\/legaldocs\/gdvzbaglqvw\/Upsolve%20et%20al%20v.%20James%202nd%20Circuit%20Decision.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">,<\/a>\u00a0the lower court applied the wrong standard of review to the rules when it\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/government\/ny-nonprofit-may-help-debtors-without-breaking-legal-practice-rules-judge-says-2022-05-25\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">decided in May 2022<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that New York nonprofit Upsolve\u2019s program, which trained people who aren\u2019t lawyers to provide free legal advice to people facing debt-collection lawsuits, was protected under the U.S. Constitution\u2019s 1st Amendment.\u201d Read more\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/government\/us-appeals-court-overturns-free-speech-ruling-legal-advice-nonprofit-upsolve-2025-09-09\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/strong>. Avianca, Inc.<\/em>\u00a0case. \u2026 In the two years since\u00a0<em>Mata<\/em>, the American Bar Association (ABA), state ethics authorities, and courts have issued guidance, opinions, and orders regarding the use of AI in the practice of law. In addition to the individual publications, legal information sites such as LawSites and Justia have made many of these resources easily accessible on their websites. Further, many bar associations, legal publications, and continuing legal education providers have provided guidance, training, and information on using AI ethically in various types of law practices.
