Seems like everyone\u2019s got an opinion about the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel by ABC following the comedian\u2019s comments about the death of far-right activist Charlie Kirk. Which\u2026 given the FCC\u2019s role in pressuring ABC and the First Amendment\u2019s prohibition on exactly that, makes sense. There\u2019s nothing quite like the decline of constitutional norms to get tongues a-waggin\u2019! And former White House attorney \u2014 and\u00a0current critic of Trump<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Ty Cobb<\/a>\u00a0is no different. He told Kristen Welker of NBC News the purge we are seeing reminds Cobb of Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s early moves to \u201csystematically silence critical media outlets and independent TV channels\u201d that were soon \u201cbought out or shut down.\u201d<\/p>\n

And there are other disturbing historical parallels. \u201cIt\u2019s evocative of what we\u2019ve seen throughout history,\u201d Cobb said. \u201cIn 1939, Dr. Goebbels, at Hitler\u2019s instruction, removed five comedians, or witticists as they were called at the time, from the airways in Germany and for criticizing or making fun of the government in a satire way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Donald Trump has also targeted other late night comedians. Something Cobb said is sadly unsurprising<\/a>. \u201cTrump is waging war on people who offend him,\u201d Cobb continued. \u201cHe\u2019s all about vengeance. And sadly, his subordinates, like one of the Project 2025 authors, Brendan Carr of the FCC, are following in line.\u201d Teeing up this dark joke, \u201cPretty soon, the only comedian left standing is going to be Karoline Leavitt.\u201d<\/p>\n
