Harris had plenty to say about Donald Trump and how he\u2019s a \u201ctyrant,\u201d but Trump wasn\u2019t the only figure that drew Harris\u2019s fire.<\/p>\n<p>Harris turned her attention to private companies for not holding the line vis-\u00e0-vis Trump. \u201cI\u2019ve worked closely with the private sector over many years. And I always believed that if push came to shove, those titans of industry would be guardrails for our democracy, for the importance of sustaining democratic institutions. And one by one by one, they have been silent. They have been, you know, yes, I use the word feckless,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n<p>Harris also pointed out that this lack of courage is motivated by the bottom line. \u201cPerhaps it\u2019s because they want a merger approved or they want to avoid an investigation. But\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I just have one question: Does she know where her husband works? <\/p>\n<p>Listen, I\u2019m sure the last year or so has been hella crazy for Harris and maybe she just isn\u2019t tracking where her husband is currently practicing law. If she *does* know, this whole interview is giving big <em>do as I say, not as my husband does<\/em> energy.<\/p>\n<p>Because for those who don\u2019t know and\/or care, after his stint as Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff chose to return to Biglaw and is currently<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/01\/doug-emhoff-returns-to-private-practice-at-top-30-biglaw-firm\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> a partner at Willkie Farr<\/a>. You know, <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/trump-is-coming-for-biglaw-heres-what-the-firms-are-doing-about-it\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one of the nine<\/a> \u201cfeckless\u201d Biglaw firms that <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/willkie-farr-surrenders-to-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bent a knee<\/a> to Donald Trump \u2014 and promised $940 million in pro bono payola \u2014 to avoid the <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/perkins-coie-gets-temporary-restraining-order-against-trumps-punitive-executive-order\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unconstitutional<\/a> Executive Orders <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/03\/bannon-drops-bombshell-trump-wants-to-cripple-elite-law-firms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">targeting major law firms<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/willkie-farr-may-be-next-on-the-presidents-hit-list\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pissed off<\/a> Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>So yes, quite like the \u201ctitans of industry\u201d that are supposed to be \u201cguardrails for our democracy\u201d the law firm where Emhoff is a partner did the Exact. Same. Thing. It\u2019s actually worse, because Willkie is giving Donald Trump $100 million is free legal services for <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/biglaw-firms-in-league-with-donald-trump-now-have-to-defend-cops-that-kill-black-and-brown-people\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump-approved causes and clients.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is not as simple as holding a woman accountable for what her husband does, as some Harris apologists might opine. There is a direct financial benefit that Kamala Harris\u2019s household receives when <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/tag\/willkie-farr\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Willkie Farr<\/a> does well \u2014 and that firm sold out the rule of law in order to ensure that their bottom line didn\u2019t take a hit. <\/p>\n<p>And I don\u2019t think Harris\u2019s comments pass the blush test just because Emhoff was<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/doug-emhoff-critical-of-willkie-farrs-decision-to-bow-to-donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> publicly critical<\/a> of Willkie\u2019s deal with Trump. Because HE SILL WORKS THERE! As a partner, no less! <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/06\/willkie-farr-gets-slammed-for-grave-mistake\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Associates<\/a> (and of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/06\/bevy-of-willkie-partners-depart-for-biglaw-firm-that-will-actually-stand-up-for-the-rule-of-law\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">partners too<\/a>) are bailing from Willkie to get the stink of capitulation off their career. Emhoff \u2014 both as an experienced partner and as a household name \u2014 has vastly more opportunities than junior attorneys yet he chooses to stay at Willkie.
