A swing justice \u2014\u00a0that makes it sound like you sort of are swinging back and forth, and you can\u2019t make up your mind. And that is not my approach to judging. People might agree or disagree with either the philosophy or the result that I reach in applying that philosophy in an individual case, but I don\u2019t think of myself as a swing justice.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2014 <\/i>Justice Amy Coney Barrett<\/a>, in comments given<\/a> during the inaugural SCOTUSBlog\u00a0Summit<\/a>, concerning the times she has made decisions that go against the Trump administration\u2019s wishes. This has sparked harsh criticism, of which the justice said, \u201cI\u2019ve had to just learn to tune it out because it\u2019s the job of a judge to ignore that and not be influenced by public opinion.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
