Our great leader recently announced that negotiations are very close to being finished: you know things are serious because he delivered the news <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BloombergTV\/status\/1973155272488063347\" rel=\"nofollow\">in person<\/a> instead of via a Truth Social post. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/30\/us\/trump-harvard-deal.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a> has coverage:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>President Trump said Tuesday that his administration was close to reaching a multimillion-dollar agreement with Harvard University, which would end a monthslong standoff that had come to symbolize the resistance to the White House\u2019s efforts to reshape higher education.<br \/>\u2026<br \/>\u201cWe are in the process of getting very close,\u201d President Trump said in an appearance from the Oval Office. He added that the details were being finalized and said, \u201cThey would be paying about $500 million.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Big if here \u2014 he said negotiations with Harvard should be done in a week or so <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/06\/trump-administration-places-thumb-on-negotiation-scale-decides-harvard-didnt-do-enough-to-fight-antisemitism\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">back on June 20th<\/a> \u2014 but if the school goes through with paying out $500M to the Trump administration, they should expect a lot of push back from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2025\/4\/18\/garber-trump-harvard-donors\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">all of the donors that dug deep and donated<\/a> to try and make up for the government playing hardball with their grants. And sure, the million or so they got in April is a far cry from the billions that the government put on hold, but the summary judgment <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/09\/harvard-just-defrosted-trumps-multibillion-dollar-funding-freeze\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ruling that the government\u2019s funding freeze was unlawful<\/a> gave some hope that the law was on their side. Protracted fights suck, but this hardly seems like the time to throw in the towel.
