Not surprising, since his social media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DPC1sFFD2iF\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement <\/a>said, \u201cI have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I\u2019m innocent.\u201d But there\u2019s more than blind faith fueling his optimism.<\/p>\n<p>According <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/special-counsel-john-durham-undercut-case-james-comey\/story\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to ABC News<\/a>, John Durham was a special counsel \u2014 appointed by Donald Trump \u2014 who spent four years looking into the FBI investigation of Russian influence in the 2016 election. And Durham found there was not sufficient evidence to charge Comey with those false statement charges Lindsey Halligan rubber stamped. Moreover, Durham reported his findings to prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia ahead of the charges \u2014 which bolster\u2019s Comey\u2019s likely argument of selective prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors in Virginia met remotely with Durham in August to understand the findings of his investigation, according to sources familiar with the meeting, and his conclusions raise the prospect that Durham \u2014 who was once elevated by Trump and other Republicans believing he would prosecute high-level officials involved with the investigation of the president\u2019s 2016 campaign \u2014 could now become a key figure aiding Comey\u2019s defense.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and there was an additional investigation out of the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office in Washington, D.C. that *also* concluded Comey committed no chargeable offense.
