U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office, following a sentencing memo proposing 27 months for January 6 alumnus Taylor Taranto. Outside of his January 6 resume, which earned him a pardon from Trump, Taranto was arrested after bringing \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DilanianMSNBC\/status\/1983531594674569504\" rel=\"nofollow\">two guns, a machete and hundreds of rounds of ammunition<\/a>\u201d to Barack Obama\u2019s house \u2014 after Donald Trump posted the former president\u2019s address \u2014 and posting a picture of himself with the caption \u201cWe got these losers surrounded!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taranto was found guilty of illegal gun possession and false information stemming from another public claim suggesting he was going to blow up the National Institute of Standards and Technology. <\/p>\n<p>But then Valdivia and White prepared a sentencing memo seeking 27 years and citing Taranto\u2019s participation in the January 6 \u201cmob of rioters\u201d while describing his criminal history. This description has the benefit of being, you know, entirely accurate. It also has the detriment of being entirely <em>not<\/em> how Donald Trump likes to hear his beloved thugs described.<\/p>\n<p>Savvy readers may be wondering if, given that this is a D.C. prosecution, the memo earned a sign off from boss Jeanine Pirro. As it happens, Pirro <em>did<\/em> approve the memo meaning she either saw nothing wrong with it or found herself too distracted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonian.com\/2025\/05\/22\/jeanine-pirro-wants-taxpayers-to-fund-her-bottled-water\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">by the bottled water situation in the office<\/a> to read it.<\/p>\n<p>Which explains the NBC report that the decision to derail the careers of a couple rank-and-file prosecutors came directly from the White House.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>I wonder why the White House is so sensitive about describing January 6 as a riot.
