Cozen O\u2019Connor is growing in Minneapolis! Today, the Philadelphia-based firm, ranked 77th on the 2025 Am Law 100 based on gross revenue, announced a merger with Moss & Barnett. Cozen will add some 50+ attorneys as a result of the acquisition.<\/p>\n

Michael Heller, chairman and CEO of Cozen, noted, \u201cThis combination advances our commitment to deepen our presence across the Midwest, a strategically important region for the firm and our clients.\u201d He also said Moss & Barnett\u2019s deep roots \u2014 founded in 1892 \u2014 \u201cmake it a perfect fit for Cozen O\u2019Connor\u2019s strategic vision for growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heller told Bloomberg Law<\/a> Minneapolis was clear target for Cozen, \u201cWe have a strong middle-market practice and continue to pursue those clients while also continuing to expand our client portfolio because now the Minneapolis folks have a national platform by which to engage those clients,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Moss & Barnett president and CEO Brian Grogan said the benefits of the merger outweighed any potential risks:<\/p>\n

Grogan said his firm\u2019s partners, who voted unanimously in favor of the merger, recognized the risk of losing their independence to a larger firm. Cozen is more than 10 times larger in terms of lawyer count and annual revenue. But Grogan said those concerns were \u201coffset by the realities of practicing law today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCozen invests heavily in AI technology to improve legal tech for their clients,\u201d he said. \u201cThey can do that at a scale that a small regional firm can\u2019t compete with. That\u2019s something you have to consider when you ask how can we continue to provide the best opportunities for our lawyers and clients.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The combined 2025 revenue for the firms is expected to top $800 million.<\/p>\n
