There are very few (firms) that have managed to keep the double name. Increasingly, firms are known by a single name. Skadden, Cravath, Pillsbury\u2026 It\u2019s just hard to maintain the double branding.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong><em><i>\u2014<\/i> Allan Ripp, a media strategist for law firms and principal at Ripp Media, in comments given to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/americanlawyer\/2025\/11\/26\/ashurst-and-perkins-coie-claim-a-combination-of-equals-but-for-branding-one-name-must-come-first\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">American Lawyer<\/a>, concerning the name Ashurst Perkins Coie will be known by once its <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/11\/the-next-transatlantic-biglaw-heavyweight-ashurst-ties-the-knot-with-perkins-coie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">merger is complete<\/a>. \u201c[T]here\u2019s always a dominant firm in a merger, despite what they tell you,\u201d Ripp continued, adding, \u201cThe dominant name in this case comes from behind out of strength, not weakness.\u201d\u00a0He went on, suggesting that if Perkins Coie\u2019s name had come first, \u201cAshurst [could] be at risk of being dropped by those referencing the combined firm.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/abovethelaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/11\/Staci-Zaretsky.jpg?resize=150%2C100&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-66762\" title=\"\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/author\/staci-zaretsky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Staci Zaretsky<\/a>\u00a0is the managing editor of Above the Law, where she\u2019s worked since 2011.
