The firm represents Apollo and its CEO Leon Black who worked extensively with Jeffrey Epstein. Black and Epstein had a fee dispute, and Paul, Weiss was involved in that negotiation. <\/p>\n<p>And the firm\u2019s statement about the the overlap between the prestigious firm and one of the most notorious pedophiles of all time has toed this line of \u201cHey! We\u2019re just repping a client!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaul Weiss was retained by Leon Black, then the CEO of the firm\u2019s longtime client Apollo, to negotiate a series of fee disputes with Jeffrey Epstein that spanned several years,\u201d Paul Weiss said in a statement. \u201cThe firm was adverse to Epstein, and at no point did Paul Weiss or Brad Karp ever represent him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And yet\u2026 The most recent release of files from the Epstein case reveals something more. From the snippets of the relationship contained in the Epstein files, the relationship doesn\u2019t <em>seem<\/em> adversarial. \u201cI can\u2019t thank you enough for including me in an evening I\u2019ll never forget,\u201d Karp said to Epstein in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/epstein\/files\/DataSet%2011\/EFTA02493083.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">July 2015 email<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cIt was truly \u2018once in a lifetime\u2019 in every way, though I hope to be invited again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are always welcome,\u201d Epstein responded. \u201cThere are many many nights of unique talents. You will be invited often.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Karp responds by calling Epstein \u201cAmazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just a quick timeline check \u2014 at this point Epstein had already served time for procuring a\u00a0child for prostitution\u00a0and for\u00a0soliciting\u00a0a prostitute.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/business-and-practice\/brad-karp-asked-epstein-for-job-for-kid-latest-file-dump-shows\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">also reports<\/a> on a July 2016\u00a0email\u00a0in which Karp asks Epstein for help getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cornellsun.com\/article\/2026\/02\/epstein-corresponded-with-cornell-undergraduate-son-of-powerful-law-firm-chairman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his son<\/a> a job working on a Woody Allen film production. Indeed, the controversial director, who was accused of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2014\/feb\/02\/dylan-farrow-woody-allen-abuse-allegations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sexual abuse by Dylan Farrow<\/a> (which he denies), played a repeated role in the Karp\/Epstein relationship. As Daily Beast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/paul-weiss-boss-brad-karp-who-bent-the-knee-to-trump-sucked-up-to-amazing-epstein\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The documents also show that Allen played a prominent role in Karp\u2019s relationship with Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein\u2019s assistant arranged for Karp and his children to attend a small film screening in New York in 2014, and for Karp\u2019s son to attend screenings in 2016 and 2018.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That an\u2026 uncomfortable common interest to have had with Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Another July 2015\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/epstein\/files\/DataSet%2011\/EFTA02353940.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">email<\/a>\u00a0shows Epstein asking Karp about revoking a woman\u2019s visa. \u201cIs it possible for your contacts to 1 get her current visa status ? 2. Is there a way, for us to file something that would revoke a tourist visa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karp responded, \u201cBoth good ideas; will work on this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear who Epstein and Karp are referring to. However, the pair <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/epstein\/files\/DataSet%2011\/EFTA02492997.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">again discuss<\/a> the deportation of a woman in August 2015, and connect it with alleged extortion attempts of Black. In 2015 extortion was again on the mind of Epstein, when partner Alan Halperin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/epstein\/files\/DataSet%2011\/EFTA02484045.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">forwarded Epstein<\/a> an article \u201cExtortion Payments as Deductible Losses (and Not Gifts).\u201d Epstein replied, \u201cI know it well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And there are more Paul, Weiss attorneys in the latest trove of documents. Tax attorneys, estate planning attorneys\u2026 the work the firm did on behalf of Black seems to have overlapped with Epstein\u2019s work quite a bit before the parties were on opposite sides.<\/p>\n<p>That overlapping relationship between Epstein and Paul, Weiss means there are also documents that undercut the line that PW and Epstein were only ever adverse parties.
