(now referred to as the MacLaren Hall Children\u2019s Center) in El Monte, Los Angeles County, let systemic abuse take place for decades in what was supposed to be a safe living space for children victims have to come forward about abuse.<\/p>\n<p>While cases have risen from shelters, foster homes, and probation camps across the county, MacLaren Hall comes up repeatedly as a place that harbored sexual predators as employees and disregarded reports of abuse from children at the facility.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the Child Victims Act, victims from as far back as the 1950s are eligible to take legal action against LA County for abuse faced at MacLaren Hall. The amount received by victims will depend on the severity of the abuse for each particular case, as well as the impact on the victim\u2019s life and the amount of evidence provided. The victims have the option of receiving the money over a five-year period or being granted with a check up-front for $150,000.<\/p>\n<p>An additional 414 claims of sexual abuse that led to a <a href=\"https:\/\/laist.com\/news\/criminal-justice\/la-county-approves-second-sex-abuse-settlement-ab-218#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">settlement of $828 million <\/a>were announced on October 17th. These claims will be reviewed by a new judge with the money allocated over a three-year period.
