Earlier this week, we heard that the DOJ relieved Ed of his tasks as the driving force behing the DOJ\u2019s anti-weaponization initiative \u2014 the ironically named group working <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/08\/ed-martin-case-against-tish-james-so-bad-hes-begging-her-to-pretty-please-resign-so-it-looks-like-hes-done-something\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to actively weaponize the DOJ against Trump\u2019s political enemies<\/a>. Every accusation really is a confession, as they say.<\/p>\n<p>Now we may know why Eagle Ed had his wings clipped.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/02\/04\/politics\/ed-martin-review-improperly-handled-grand-jury\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CNN<\/a>, a DOJ review found Martin leaked grand jury material from the Trump administration\u2019s politically motivated investigations into Adam Schiff and Letitia James:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The department found that Martin had shared the secret grand jury material in the Schiff case, one of the sources said. The person said Martin initially denied sharing the material with unauthorized people when asked by department leaders, but emails soon surfaced showing that Martin had in fact shared the grand jury material.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Generally, we keep grand jury material secret for a reason. It protects investigative integrity and the rights of the accused. When prosecutors leak that material, it\u2019s at least contemptuous and at worst obstruction of justice. That\u2019s one of those actual crimes, not the made-up \u201csomebody criticized Elon Musk\u201d crimes <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/dc-prosecutor-ed-martin-isnt-a-nazi-he-just-really-likes-eagles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Martin threatened people with<\/a> during his tenure as interim D.C. U.S. Attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy AG Todd Blanche reportedly oversaw the review, resulting in Martin\u2019s exile from the weaponization project to concentrate on his role overseeing pardons for a president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J8TIHIp01W8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">almost assuredly selling pardons<\/a>. But Blanche isn\u2019t going to sell out a fellow MAGA warrior. In his statement to CNN, Blanche offers a masterclass in lawyerly semantics:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>[T]here are no misconduct investigations into Ed Martin. Ed is doing a great job as Pardon Attorney.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The present tense does some conspicuous heavy lifting here. No misconduct investigations <em>currently<\/em>, but don\u2019t ask Blanche the follow-up about investigations they\u2019ve already concluded. Ed may be doing a great job as Pardon Attorney \u2014 he\u2019s not, but he may have been \u2014 but how\u2019s he doing as Weaponization Working Group chief, <em>Todd<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Fittingly, the whole reason this investigation came to light was also quite dumb. Back in December, a witness named Christine Bish showed up at a Maryland courthouse after receiving a subpoena. Investigators asked her about two people who claimed to be working on fraud cases alongside Martin and FHFA Director Bill Pulte that the DOJ was investigating these individuals for <em>impersonating federal agents<\/em>. Shocking theory that the FBI wouldn\u2019t have the same appetite for wild goose chases as a couple of bros informally deputized to poke into the half-baked theories Martin and Pulte keep pinning on Trump\u2019s enemies.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Days later, a social media user highlighted that ongoing probe and referenced Pulte and Martin being under investigation. Attorney General Pam Bondi responded by seemingly trying to correct the record, without elaborating. \u201cThere is no investigation into Bill Pulte\u201d she wrote on X.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hilarious.<\/p>\n<p>For those keeping score at home, this is the same Ed Martin who: <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/02\/u-s-attorney-ed-martin-blows-past-another-ethical-line\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dismissed a case against his own former client<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/04\/dc-prosecutor-ed-martin-goes-after-wikipedia-for-exercising-first-amendment-rights\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">threatened Wikipedia<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/05\/ed-martin-pledges-to-use-doj-to-harass-people-he-cant-actually-prosecute\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">harassed people without any criminal law justification just because he thought they sounded woke<\/a>. He also <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2025\/09\/maga-attorney-getting-slammed-for-bonkers-social-media-post\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">posted photos he took with Russell Brand<\/a>\u2026 not <em>Forgetting Sarah Marshall<\/em>-era Brand, but <em>currently facing sexual assault charges<\/em> Brand.<\/p>\n<p>When he took over the weaponization group, he said of the work, \u201cIf they can be charged, we\u2019ll charge them. But if they can\u2019t be charged, we will name them. And we will name them, and in a culture that respects shame, they should be people that are ashamed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It seems this DOJ has little interest in pursuing charges here. So I guess we\u2019ll have to rely on the shaming.
