Investors appeared to price in a new competitive threat from Claude.<\/p>\n<p>But Ken Crutchfield believes the market got it wrong.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lawnext.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ken-Crutchfield-Bio-Pic-2048-x-2048-1-300x300.png?resize=300%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ken Crutchfield<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI feel the market reaction does not reflect the reality of the situation,\u201d he writes. \u201cThe market reacted to a horizontal platform signaling more vertical ambition, which is hard even outside of the legal vertical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his latest column for LawNext, <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.lawnext.com\/library\/why-the-market-overreacted-to-claude-s-legal-skills-announcement\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Why the Market Overreacted to Claude\u2019s Legal Skills Announcement<\/a>, Crutchfield lays out 10 reasons why investors should take a breath, from Cowork\u2019s corporate (not law firm) focus to the reality that litigation is where the money is, from the \u201clegal wrinkles\u201d that have kept even Microsoft from fully committing to legal to the commercial reality that lawyers don\u2019t like change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCowork\u2019s legal skills skew toward transactional and drafting,\u201d he notes. \u201cBy contrast, the bulk of Thomson Reuters and LexisNexis usage and revenue comes from law firms and is driven by litigation, legal research, and regulatory compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His conclusion?
