What better way to fix that reputation than by helping others crunch numbers? Something scarier than the Amityville House is upon us \u2014 tax season. Many of us could use some hand holding to figure out what we owe the government and what the government owes us. Chances are you\u2019ve already heard the H&amp;R Block commercials peddling their wares, but Vermont residents could have a more accessible option nearby: their law school. <a href=\"https:\/\/vnews.com\/2026\/02\/06\/vermont-law-free-tax-assistance\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">V News<\/a> has coverage:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>For the second year in a row Vermont Law and Graduate School students will be available to assist Upper Valley residents who make less than $69,000 a year file their taxes for free.<br \/>\u2026<br \/>\u201cI think it\u2019s an important resource because a lot of people don\u2019t know the benefits they\u2019re entitled to,\u201d said Pamela Cartier\u2026\u201cThey walked out with $7,000, $8,000 dollars that they needed as single parents to help care for their children,\u201d Cartier said. \u201cThat\u2019s always really nice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That\u2019s a huge chunk of money! And even if tax season doesn\u2019t hit them with a windfall, the peace of mind from knowing that they won\u2019t have to deal with the IRS a-knocking is invaluable. If you or someone you know qualifies for assistance, you can reach the school at 802-831-1363 to schedule in advance; they\u2019re running the program through April 15th.
