This year\u2019s question: which Trump administration lawyer most deserves bar discipline? Sixteen lawyers entered. The field is now down to four.<\/p>\n<p>And while the winner of this bracket does not receive an automatic referral to state disciplinary authorities \u2014 though they probably should \u2014 the real purpose of this exercise is to remind everyone that local licensing authorities are the last line of defense to unethical behavior. At least for now\u2026 because the Department of Justice is trying to ramrod a new rule that <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2026\/03\/doj-proposes-rule-blocking-state-bars-from-investigating-ethical-violations-by-government-lawyers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">seizes control over all ethical questions<\/a> involving a <em>past or present<\/em> government lawyer. And almost immediately after he bragged that under his leadership, \u201cPBS defunded, NPR defunded,\u201d a federal judge orders funding restored based on the cuts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/31\/media\/federal-judge-trump-order-npr-pbs-funding\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">amounting to a censorship<\/a> \u2014 a conclusion that could\u2019ve been hard to reach if Carr wasn\u2019t stupid enough to brag about it in public. Alas, Pam Bondi moves forward in ignominy. Former FBI agents said, \u201cthank you\u201d and promptly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/ex-fbi-agents-trump-cases-cite-todd-blanches-remarks-suit-illegal-firi-rcna266039\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">filed a lawsuit claiming they were illegally fired<\/a>. The problem with an administration based on performative antics is that they can\u2019t keep their mouths shut even when their buffoonery all but guarantees they\u2019ll lose in court. We give Bondi a lot of flak for her \u201cDow is over 50,000\u201d hearing, but when it comes to grabbing a microphone and making an embarrassment of himself and the profession, Todd is hard to top. He reportedly told Justice Department officials to tell judges \u201cf**k you\u201d if they issued court orders blocking facially illegal administration policies. And then his reward was a lifetime appointment to the Third Circuit. Mizelle\u2019s role in the Make Justice Clowns Again movement, while significant, sort of pales in comparison.
