{"id":149572,"date":"2026-04-24T15:42:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T23:42:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xira.com\/p\/2026\/04\/24\/pirro-taps-out-on-powell\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T15:42:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T23:42:20","slug":"pirro-taps-out-on-powell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xira.com\/p\/2026\/04\/24\/pirro-taps-out-on-powell\/","title":{"rendered":"Pirro Taps Out On Powell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, Jeanine Pirro defiantly insisted that her investigation of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell was ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investigation continues,\u201d the US Attorney for DC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/22\/fed-powell-trump-warsh-pirro-appeal.html?taid=69e927934d7048000162f169\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">huffed<\/a> at a press conference. \u201cI am in the legal lane. There are others who are in the political lane. I don\u2019t intersect those two lanes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This indignation would have been more credible if she hadn\u2019t spent the past four months <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2026\/03\/jeanine-pirro-crashes-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">harassing<\/a> one of the president\u2019s most persistent foes. After Pirro\u2019s office subpoenaed the Fed in January, Powell called her bluff and publicly denounced the effort to intimidate the central bank. Then in March, Chief Judge James Boasberg <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.288962\/gov.uscourts.dcd.288962.23.0_6.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">quashed<\/a> the subpoenas, noting that Pirro\u2019s office had declined the opportunity to present evidence <em>in camera<\/em> of any actual crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Court is thus left with no credible reason to think that the Government is investigating suspicious facts as opposed to targeting a disfavored official,\u201d he wrote. \u201cWhen the evidence of improper motive is so strong and the justifications for these subpoenas are so tenuous, it is hard to see the renovations and testimony as anything other than a convenient pretext for launching a criminal investigation that the Government launched for another, unstated purpose: pressuring Powell to knuckle under.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Incensed, Pirro vowed to appeal. She also sent a couple of lawyers from her office to bang on the door of the Fed and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/us-news\/law\/jeanine-pirros-prosecutors-make-surprise-visit-to-fed-headquarters-86d9d4bd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">demand<\/a> to be let in for a spot inspection. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShould you wish to challenge that finding, the courts provide an avenue for you; it is not appropriate for you to try to circumvent it,\u201d the Fed\u2019s lawyer Robert Hur wrote. \u201cI ask that you commit not to seek to communicate with my client outside the presence of counsel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Pirro wasn\u2019t done fighting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that a judge can stand at the door of a grand jury and tell a prosecutor you\u2019re not allowed to go in when the United States Supreme Court has said you can go into a grand jury based on rumors and suspicion, is an order that we think must be appealed, and we are continuing in this investigation,\u201d she snarled on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, though, politics came for Pirro. Republican Senator Thom Tillis vowed that none of Trump\u2019s nominees to the Fed were getting out of the Banking Committee until Pirro called off her dogs. And, with no ability to replace Powell when his term expires in three weeks, Trump would be stuck with his nemesis indefinitely according to the bank\u2019s own rules.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This ruling confirms just how weak and frivolous the criminal investigation of Chairman Powell is and it is nothing more than a failed attack on Fed independence.  <\/p>\n<p>We all know how this is going to end and the D.C. I\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 US Attorney Pirro (@USAttyPirro) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USAttyPirro\/status\/2047679907312939264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 24, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In fact, Powell himself <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/business-news\/powell-asks-inspector-general-review-25-billion-renovation-trump-blast-rcna218714\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">asked<\/a> Inspector General Michael Horowitz to review the project last July, and the IG confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/economy\/justice-dept-drops-probe-federal-reserve-powell-rcna341876\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">NBC<\/a> that there is no new inquiry.
