As you should, it\u2019s the job after all! But procedural issues and statutory interpretation aren\u2019t the only things you need to stand on guard for. Sometimes the bigger threat is sitting right next to you. One lawyer found that out the hard way when his client allegedly sucker punched him after a negative verdict. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abajournal.com\/news\/article\/criminal-defense-lawyer-punched-in-the-face-after-his-client-gets-maximum-sentence-for-murder\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ABA Journal<\/a> has coverage:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>A criminal defense lawyer has said he does not have direct knowledge of allegedly getting punched in the face by a client.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt that point apparently, I was out. My client hit me in the face. People in the courtroom said I fell back in the chair, hit a counter and apparently fell to the ground,\u201d Houston lawyer John Petruzzi told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox26houston.com\/news\/long-time-houston-defense-attorney-punched-face-his-own-client\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fox 26 Houston<\/a>.<br \/>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The sentence range was five to 50 years, and the judge in April sided with the government for a 50-year sentence. Then came the alleged punch.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Receiving a guilty verdict is a heavy event. While I\u2019m sure everyone would like to think that they\u2019d remain stoic, crying or passing out aren\u2019t all that out of the ordinary. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>While rare, this is far from the only time that someone has reacted violently to an unfavorable verdict. The last time something like this went viral there was more jumping involved:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, Petruzzi\u2019s former client, Jaquarius Lewis, was promptly charged with intentionally causing bodily harm. I\u2019m usually not one to give advice on how to hurt people and get away with it, but it generally isn\u2019t a good idea to do that in a courtroom. That isn\u2019t legal advice mind you, and it definitely isn\u2019t directed at Mr. Lewis.
