About 20 positions will be cut as a result. A spokesperson for the firm shared a statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOver the past two years, we have been investing significantly in our central business teams, as well as in technology and data, to deliver smarter and more consistent ways of working across a firm of our scale and ambition. That work has created new roles and reshaped others. In some areas this has meant limited and localized headcount reductions. Where that has been necessary, we are working closely to support affected colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time A&amp;O has trimmed headcount since its combination. In 2024, the firm <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2024\/09\/ten-percent-of-equity-partnership-being-cut-at-ao-shearman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cut 10% of its equity partners<\/a> while at the same time closing its office in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as its consulting business.
