A&O Shearman, a firm that completed a major merger<\/a> just a few short years ago to become one of the largest firms in the world, is continuing its push to streamline operations, and in this case, that means staff members will be losing their jobs.<\/p>\n

According to a report from the Law.com International<\/a>, the firm is\u00a0slashing\u00a0business services roles in its London office, primarily impacting roles across A&O\u2019s IT, finance, and marketing teams. About 20 positions will be cut as a result. A spokesperson for the firm shared a statement:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cOver the past two years, we have been investing significantly in our central business teams, as well as in technology and data, to deliver smarter and more consistent ways of working across a firm of our scale and ambition. That work has created new roles and reshaped others. In some areas this has meant limited and localized headcount reductions. Where that has been necessary, we are working closely to support affected colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time A&O has trimmed headcount since its combination. In 2024, the firm cut 10% of its equity partners<\/a> while at the same time closing its office in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as its consulting business. In all, 32 attorneys and about 88 staff members were let go as a result of the closures.<\/p>\n
