Ludington\u00a0(E.D. Michigan), the federal jurist had <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2026\/04\/judge-accused-of-driving-super-drunk-takes-no-contest-plea\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">entered a no contest plea<\/a> to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge after having been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2026\/01\/federal-judge-arrested-accused-of-driving-while-super-drunk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">accused of driving \u201csuper drunk\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in an October incident that brought about a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2026\/02\/federal-judge-accused-of-driving-super-drunk-crashes-into-judicial-misconduct-complaint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">judicial misconduct complaint<\/a>. Back in February, he opted to take a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2026\/02\/federal-judge-accused-of-driving-super-drunk-takes-voluntary-leave-from-the-bench\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">voluntary leave of absence<\/a>\u00a0from the bench while his case moved forward. Now, we have another update: earlier this week, Ludington was sentenced to six months of probation and ordered to pay $1,175 in fees and costs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As noted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/government\/michigan-federal-judge-sentenced-probation-drunken-driving-2026-05-13\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a>, Ludington\u2019s attorney, Jonathan B. Steffy of Harris Law, said in a written statement that \u201cJudge Ludington apologized again in court today, to the Judge and to the community \u200bfor the concern this issue has caused,\u201d that the judge was thankful no one was injured, and that with this case now behind him, the judge \u201ccommits to continuing his \u200bcareer of service: focusing on his work and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fix the Court, the nonpartisan group that filed the misconduct complaint against the judge, doesn\u2019t think that Ludington should have it so easy. Here\u2019s a statement released by Gabe Roth, the organization\u2019s executive director:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI fail to understand how Ludington believes he can simply waltz back into his chambers and resume his job as if no drunk-driving incident happened, which is what his attorney\u2019s statement suggests he\u2019s planning to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat Ludington apparently hid his arrest from his colleagues for months does not speak well of his character. Had he come clean immediately after the incident and begun to take remedial steps, like entering rehab or AA, I\u2019d feel much more confident that he could return to performing his duties.
