Michael Rynowecer shares highlights below.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"495\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.attorneyatwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/law-firm-associate-satisfaction.jpg?resize=770%2C495&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"sad, neutral and happy faces meter for law firm associate satisfaction\" title=\"\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Associates don\u2019t leave their law firms for compensation \u2014 they leave over job experience failures and partner behavior.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, according to the just-released <a href=\"https:\/\/bticonsulting.com\/bti-associate-satisfaction-a-listers-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">BTI Associate Satisfaction A-Listers 2026: Survey of Law Firms Where Associates Are Happiest<\/a>, this year only 9.4% of associates are in it for the money alone, compared with 17.2% in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2026 report is based on a large-scale survey of associates at Am Law 200, global, midsize and smaller law firms, designed to uncover the drivers behind associate retention and job satisfaction.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-so-what-are-associates-looking-for-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">So, What Are Associates Looking for in 2026?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the survey, when these seven factors break down, associates are out the door:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list has-background\">\n<li><strong>Abundant and clear commitment to accelerate associates\u2019 careers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Meaningful and hyper-relevant training.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>High-impact mentoring.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Clear career growth path within their firm.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Strong job satisfaction.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Targeted support addressing women associates\u2019 distinct needs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Having at least one partner actively invested in their success.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can learn exactly what this means for your firm in the survey report, and how the firms with the best associate satisfaction ratings stay at the top.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With more than 5,000 organic and unprompted responses, associates recognize only 189 firms for excellent job satisfaction. <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-the-following-law-firms-are-at-the-top-of-the-job-satisfaction-leaderboard\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The following law firms are at the top of the job satisfaction leaderboard:<\/h3>\n<table id=\"tablepress-75\" class=\"tablepress tablepress-id-75\">\n<tbody class=\"row-striping row-hover\">\n<tr class=\"row-1\">\n<td class=\"column-1\">Baker Donelson<\/td>\n<td class=\"column-2\">Greenberg Traurig<\/td>\n<td class=\"column-3\">Kirton McConkie<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr class=\"row-2\">\n<td class=\"column-1\">Burr &amp; Berman<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-law-firms-best-for-women-associates\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Law Firms Best for Women Associates<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the overall associate cohort, we took a look at the specific experiences of women associates. Women associates report 17% lower job satisfaction than men, rising from 13% in 2022. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why are things getting worse and harder for women? The\u00a0survey\u00a0reveals 13 pervasive reasons, including these top five:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list has-background\">\n<li><strong>Less support \u2014 54% see lower commitment to help develop their career than men.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Less pay \u2014 two-thirds believe they are underpaid.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lower optimism about career growth within their firm.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Little predictability in work and job-related priorities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lacking business development training and tools, which women respondents believe has more impact on their careers than men\u2019s.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only 138 firms gain recognition as being better for women associates, as ranked by these same women.
