In an exclusive interview in 2023 with Capitol Times Magazine \u2014 a publication no one has ever heard of or read but which you can buy for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capitoltimesmedia.com\/\">just $10.99<\/a> per month \u2014 Byrne <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869.1.1.pdf\">said<\/a> he was recruited by the Iranian government for a top secret mission.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"827\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/abovethelaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-12-at-6.11.40-PM-827x1024.png?resize=827%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1187629\" title=\"\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why the Iranians would approach the former CEO of Overstock.com was left unsaid, but apparently this kind of thing <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2020\/12\/14\/a-tycoons-deep-state-conspiracy-dive\">happens a lot<\/a>. Byrne also claims to have been approached by Venezuelan interests and to have been recruited by the FBI to set up a foreign bribe for Hillary Clinton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the course of this particular mission, dubbed \u201cLeague of Shadows,\u201d Byrne discovered that Hunter Biden was soliciting an $800 million bribe from Iran tied to his father\u2019s negotiations with the regime \u2014 or so Byrne told the Capitol Times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In November of 2023, Biden <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869.1.0_2.pdf\">sued<\/a> Byrne for defamation in the Central District of California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, in a normal lawsuit, Byrne\u2019s lawyer would have argued that, when the entire world has seen the complainant blasted out of his mind cavorting with sex workers, he\u2019s more or less un-defame-able. But Byrne\u2019s lawyer, Michael Murphy, never got to make that argument, because Byrne fired him an hour before the trial was supposed to start on July 29, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can\u2019t have been an enormous shock to Murphy, who was at least the fourth lawyer on the case. (In court documents, Byrne claimed he feared sabotage when Murphy\u2019s associate showed up with a Free Palestine pin and cat hair on her suit.) But it <em>was<\/em> a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869.367.2.pdf\">pretty big shock<\/a> to Judge Stephen Wilson, an 85-year-old Reagan appointee, who gaveled in the case to find three rando lawyers seated at the defense table. None of those lawyers was Peter Ticktin, Donald Trump\u2019s former boarding school roommate, who got famous defending MAGA D-listers and <em>pro hac<\/em>-ed into this case. In his stead stood Stefanie Lambert, an election-denying lawyer who managed to get herself <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2024\/08\/judge-reminds-kraken-lawyer-that-getting-disqualified-really-does-mean-you-have-to-stop-filing-stuff\/\"><em>un<\/em>-admitted<\/a> from a case in DC after leaking protected discovery material, but not before getting herself <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2024\/03\/showing-up-to-another-court-while-theres-a-warrant-for-your-arrest-proves-a-bad-idea-for-maga-lawyer\/\">arrested<\/a> in the courtroom on an outstanding warrant from her home state of Michigan. (Liberty dropped similar suits against Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and Mike Lindell, but can\u2019t get out of Byrne\u2019s thanks to Lambert and Ticktin\u2019s antics.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After sputtering in astonishment at the \u201cthree-ring circus\u201d occupying his courtroom, Judge Wilson decided that he wasn\u2019t going to accept Lambert\u2019s pro hac application, and he revoked Ticktin\u2019s for failure to appear. At which point Byrne fired the other two lawyers and essentially refused to participate in the case at all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than default him immediately, Wilson continued the case to October, reopened discovery into Byrne\u2019s finances, and ordered Byrne to hire another lawyer. Byrne ignored all three instructions, then disregarded multiple orders that he personally appear in the courtroom. Instead, he went on Alex Jones\u2019s show and repeated the lies about Biden and Iran, playing a voicemail recording he had personally designated \u201cHIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL\u201d under the case\u2019s own protective order. Jones\u2019s account promoted the clip with a caption crowning Byrne a \u201cCIA Whistleblower.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In January, with a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869.367.3.pdf\">hearing<\/a> on the default judgment already underway, a lawyer named Robert Tyler, materialized to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869.353.0.pdf\">request a \u201climited appearance\u201d<\/a> on Byrne\u2019s behalf \u2014 filed that same morning, with no explanation for where Tyler had been for the preceding five months.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"828\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/abovethelaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-12-at-6.54.07-PM-1024x828.png?resize=1024%2C828&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1187630\" title=\"\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is another last-minute ploy, and, frankly, at this point in the proceedings, I find Mr. Byrne totally incredible and not believable,\u201d the judge scoffed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually Tyler managed to enter an <em>un<\/em>-limited appearance and filed <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869\/gov.uscourts.cacd.904869.363.0.pdf\">motions<\/a> to get his client <em>un<\/em>-defaulted, enlisting the help of (yet another) Florida lawyer. But by then it was far too late.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judge Wilson awarded Biden $1 in nominal compensatory damages plus $1.7 million in punitive damages \u2014 an amount calculated to be high enough to get Byrne to finally shut up about Hunter Biden. (<em>I\u2019ll take the under on that one<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court imposed $34,969 in sanctions for Byrne\u2019s bad behavior, to be paid in 14 days, increasing by $1,000 every day after the deadline. (<em>I\u2019ll take the over on that one.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Byrne\u2019s team says he intends to appeal. But by then it was far too late.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Wilson awarded Biden $1 in nominal compensatory damages plus $1.7 million in punitive damages \u2014 an amount calculated to be high enough to get Byrne to finally shut up about Hunter Biden. (<em>I\u2019ll take the under on that one<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>The court imposed $34,969 in sanctions for Byrne\u2019s bad behavior, to be paid in 14 days, increasing by $1,000 every day after the deadline.
