But there was one place where Clio Work was not available — Canada, the country where Clio was founded and is headquartered.

Now Clio has brought home the bacon, so to speak, launching Clio Work in Canada — and doing it roughly six weeks after acquiring the Canadian legal data company that made the launch possible.

Clio Work went live in Canada on July 23, enabled by a corpus of more than 470,000 Canadian cases drawn from Jurisage, the Toronto-based legal AI and data company Clio acquired in June.

At the time of that deal, Clio said Clio Work would reach Canada “later this year.” It got there faster than that language might have suggested.

“The Jurisage acquisition paved the way for the Canadian launch of Clio Work,” said Jack Newton, Clio’s CEO and founder. “No other AI understands both the specifics of a firm’s matters and Canadian law itself. That’s a powerful combination, and we believe it’s going to fuel the future of legal work in Canada.”

What Clio Work Does

Clio Work is a “matter-aware” AI tool that Clio says “understands your cases, their context and the law. It pulls from the documents, tasks, deadlines, client communications and notes already sitting in the matter file, and then combines that context with legal authority.

Clio says Canadian users can use it to summarize a matter and surface key facts, claims, risks and dates; research Canadian law with results linked back to source; stress-test a strategy’s strengths and weaknesses before committing to it; and draft and revise work product.

Users can delegate multi-step tasks to the product’s agentic capabilities, which plan and execute in sequence while providing the lawyer visibility and control at each stage.

The Jurisage database behind it covers more than 470,000 Canadian decisions across 40-plus courts and is updated daily.

‘Relief’ Among Canadian Customers

Luke Slan, Clio’s general manager for Canada, said the reaction from early users has been relief.

“For the first time, they have an AI that actually knows their work,” Slan said. “It feels less like a tool they have to manage and more like a colleague they can rely on for real client work.”

According to Clio’s Legal Trends for Canadian Law Firms Report, 95% of Canadian legal professionals now use AI in some form. However, most of that use is generic tools that were not designed for legal work, let alone Canadian legal work.

Prio to this announcement, Clio Work had been available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Now, Clio has brought home the bacon to its native soil, and, thanks to the Jurisage acquisition, that bacon is Canadian.

The post Bringing Home The Bacon: Clio Launches ‘Clio Work’ AI In Its Home Country Of Canada appeared first on Above the Law.
