Before teaming up to launch the firm, Puryear practiced business litigation while Ballew focused primarily on catastrophic personal injury cases.<\/p>\n<p>They share a deep love of music, and are huge fans of jam bands like Phish, Widespread Panic, Goose, and the Grateful Dead. The inspiration for the firm\u2019s logo is drawn from the cover of the Dead\u2019s seminal \u201cTerrapin Station\u201d album. So, when it came time to craft a vision for the firm, they found it echoed in the Dead\u2019s lyrics for \u201cHelp On The Way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe love the Dead. Being a guitar player, I idolize and study Jerry Garcia\u2019s improvisational genius as a lead player. But to us, the Dead represents much more than their music. They are the most famous band of all time when it comes to their sense of inclusion and community,\u201d said Ballew. \u201cI think something that\u2019s come out of our love of music is that atmosphere of community. When you go to a live show, especially a jam band show, everybody there treats each other with open arms and a welcoming sense of community. It may sound hokey, but I think that\u2019s something that has translated over to the way we wanted to build and run this law firm, a sense of community and togetherness for our\u00a0team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believed that if we could foster a really wonderful and supportive place to work, that we would have wonderful people wanting to work here,\u201d Ballew added. \u201cThat combination turns into a great law firm that can do special things for the people that we represent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be hard to overstate the importance of finding joy where you work and who you work with,\u201d said Kaplan. \u201cI think we are a great example of this. It\u2019s used for practicing trial examinations of witnesses, closing arguments, moot appellate arguments, and focus groups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad would always say that practice doesn\u2019t make perfect, practice makes permanence,\u201d said Puryear. \u201cThis is a space for us to hone our skill. And if you\u2019re not practicing, you\u2019re not honing your skill. This space makes us the best we can possibly be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsing our space to prepare to be in front of a jury, where you stand, the way you move and your physical use of the space can and does matter,\u201d said Turk. \u201cSo having a space to practice is immensely helpful.
