The Bureau\u2019s hotline received some 4,500 tips and conducted exactly 10 interviews<\/a>. After the fact, the FBI explained away its superficial probe by attesting that it had merely acted as an \u201cinvestigative support provider\u201d rather than an investigative agency. The tips went to Trump White House counsel without the FBI seriously following up on them.
