Chairman Scott Barshay called the group \u201cone of the most talented teams of private equity lawyers in the marketplace\u201d and \u201ca perfect fit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The release does not say where they were before. All six were Weil\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Machera, for his part, offered a line that reads a little differently if you happen to work in Weil\u2019s corporate department. \u201cThe Paul, Weiss private equity platform speaks for itself,\u201d he said, \u201cand the response from our clients has been literally overwhelming since I arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s that word again. When Weil announced that corporate chair Michael Aiello was leaving, it went out of its way to note he was decamping for <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2026\/09\/weils-corporate-chair-decamps-for-cravath-which-weil-would-like-you-to-know-is-a-smaller-platform\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201ca smaller platform,\u201d<\/a> the platform in question being Cravath. And again they echoed the \u201cplatform\u201d terminology when responding to <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2026\/09\/weil-seeks-to-strengthen-its-platform-as-merger-rumors-swirl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">those pesky merger rumors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The departure of Machera\u2019s group is the back half of a very long year.
