It was a murder-for-hire hit orchestrated by his ex-wife with whom he was in a bitter custody battle. Raleigh divorce attorney Kathleen Murphy talked about the case on Nancy Grace’s podcast, “Crime Stories.”

Grace is a former prosecutor in the Atlanta-Fulton County, Georgia DA’s office who has been hosting TV shows and podcasts as a current affairs commentator for two decades.

Murphy met Grace’s producer in 2018 at CrimeCon in Nashville. “I said, I’ve got so many crazy stories in family court. If Nancy ever wants to speak with me about it, I’m happy to talk with her,” said Murphy.

Murphy, who joined Triangle Divorce Lawyers last year, has appeared 50 times on Grace’s TV shows and podcasts. They talk about child custody and marital conflicts that devolve into violent crimes.

“[Kathleen has taught me] there are so many local agencies ready to help, and so many others working with these agencies are very well informed with years of expertise,” said Grace. “There are many varieties of domestic violence, all negatively affecting children. Such acts should be considered in family court against the abuser.”

“If [Nancy’s] got a case, I get information the day before. I read about it and then I jump on [her show]. It could be a case out of California or it could be a case out of Europe.”

High Conflict Custody Disputes

Murphy said some of the crimes they discuss grow out of contentious child custody battles. “When children have doctor’s appointments, extracurricular activities, pajama days, or doing Valentine cards, just think about having two separate homes trying to accomplish all of that when people hate each other.”

“I ask, what happened with the court case? What was the motive for this person killing the other person? What were the warning signs and what did we do wrong in the court systems? Were we protecting the victim by enforcing a domestic violence order? Did the judge take into consideration past domestic violence? Did the judge take into consideration that the other person has a previous criminal record?

“I always tell Nancy, if you’re fighting with the parent of your child, what is escalating the danger in that situation? Are the parties regularly fighting about the custody of the children? Is it the back-and-forth arguments? Does one parent want the other parent out of the picture? It is a very ugly, ugly situation when children are in the middle of their parents’ contentious divorce,” said Murphy.

“Those are the kinds of feelings I bring to Nancy when I see domestic violence in the home. I guarantee those people have been in the court system for a while either with attorneys that fail to get it resolved or pro se parties not understanding the impact that this will have on this generation of children.”

“Kathleen is an aggressive advocate for families and children and has a laser focus on how domestic violence damages children,” said Grace. “She works diligently to deliver that information to the courts, and to our ‘Crime Stories’ viewers to expose the abusers as they should be.”

She’s a Phenomenon

Grace has appeared on Court TV, Oprah, Good Morning America and her own TV shows. She has written several books. In her appearances, she often advocates for victim’s rights.

Grace is both loved and hated for her brusque, aggressive style of playing judge and jury on her shows. But Murphy sees another side of her. “She’s a lovely, lovely, lovely person and her persona is very different than who she is in person,” said Murphy. “When she was a prosecutor in Atlanta, she did not lose one case, and I don’t think she pled out any cases. She’s a phenomenon.”

The post Raleigh Divorce Lawyer Kathleen Murphy Is Regular Guest on Nancy Grace appeared first on Attorney at Law Magazine.

Privacy Overview

This website uses cookies so that we can provide you with the best user experience possible.
