Taft leader Bob Hicks said the firm is also in preliminary talks with two or three other firms for a potential combination, although, “I normally talk to 20 or 30 firms before I find one that’s viable.”

Am Law 100 firm Taft Stettinius & Hollister is merging with Denver-founded regional firm Sherman & Howard, the latest big tie-up in the legal industry.

The merger, effective Jan. 1, 2025, will result in a firm with more than 1,000 attorneys and a projected combined revenue of $810 million for 2024 and $875 million forecasted revenue next year, firm leaders say. The combined revenue may push Cincinnati-founded Taft, ranked No. 83 in the Am Law 100 this year, about 20 slots ahead in the rankings.
