Job satisfaction for deputy general counsel soared from 70% in 2023 to 96% last year, according to a newly released study. But 80% of the 200 U.S. and U.K. deputy GCs who responded said they face significant obstacles advancing their careers and likely will need to leave their current employer to gain the skills needed to step into a general counsel role.

The findings come from “Becoming a General Counsel: A Career Guide for Upwardly Mobile Deputy GCs,” commissioned by the on-demand legal services provider Axiom and conducted by Wakefield Research.
